A gemstone pipe cannot take an iso soak the way glass can, so the screen is doing most of the work keeping ash and resin out of the airflow channel. Swap it when it darkens and the pipe pulls like new. Let it go and you are scraping stone, which you do not want to be doing.

These are the factory mesh screens sized for the Astral Project bowls, so they seat properly instead of sitting proud and popping loose.
