A honeycomb base pushes the smoke through a plate of small holes instead of one opening, breaking it into many streams at once. More contact with the water, cooler draw, and the sound changes with it.

Prism's sections separate for cleaning, which matters more on a honeycomb than on a plain beaker, since a clogged plate is the thing that ruins the draw.
