Bongs and Water Pipes
Water pipes · Venice, CA
Two decisions really, and the second one matters more than people expect. A beaker flares at the base, so it holds more water and is far harder to knock over. A straight tube holds less, clears faster and takes up less room, but it tips. Then comes height, and height is the thing nobody judges correctly from a photograph. We walked through the whole choice in beaker or straight tube, including what actually changes at 6, 9, 12, 15 and 18 inches.
The clearest way to see that is the Human Grade ladder, which runs the same build at five heights: a 6 inch beaker, a 9 inch beaker, then straight tubes at 12, 15 and 18 inches. There is also an inline tube with a triple ice catch if cooling is the whole point for you. If you are buying a first piece and have no strong opinion, the 9 inch beaker is the answer almost every time.
MJ Arsenal is where the engineering sits. The Nexus has a suction base that genuinely grips a flat surface, the Spire is an Andy Roth design with a second perc and a built in splash guard, and the Laguna runs a hollow bottom base. The Alpine Series puts milled black walnut on glass across the Lookout, the Palisade and the handheld Mesa bubbler.
Softglass builds in glass and silicone rather than glass alone, which matters if you have broken a piece before. The Core has a magnetic lighter dock, and the Totem is modular, so you swap the top instead of buying a second piece. The Tandem Rig Kit does the same trick on the concentrate side with mason perc and incycler tops.
Hemper is the character glass, blown as the object rather than printed on a tube: a moonshine jug, an arcade cabinet, the Trippy Shroom, and two XL pieces with real percs behind the joke, the Snail and the 70's. GRAV covers the quieter premium end, and BigFUN! makes an all glass gravity bong, which is its own thing entirely.
GRAV now runs deep here, clean scientific glass without the fuss. The Mini Beaker is an easy first piece, the deco beakers come in small, medium and large, and there are round base and wide base builds, the 13 inch Empress, the Monarch gravity bong and the Milk Carton bubbler. Prism builds modular glass that comes apart into sections: the Duo, the Smile and the 666 Cat. Jane West does the same with them on the Jane West x Prism modular water pipe, in four colours, which is about the easiest bong there is to clean.
Through October there is also MJ Arsenal's Halloween run: the Frankenbubbler, the frosted Skele-Tube and the Nightcrawler mini rig. All six pieces from that drop are in the Halloween glass write-up. The whole run sits in the Halloween collection.
Nearly everything here is a 14mm joint, so bowls and downstems swap across most of the range, and almost every piece comes with a bowl. Want something pocketable instead? That is hand pipes. Everything is on the shelf at 1321 Venice Blvd, which is worth knowing because height is the one thing photographs get wrong. Open till midnight every day, free local pickup, and we ship nationwide.
