A beaker base is wider at the bottom than a straight tube, which means more water, more stability on a table and far less chance of knocking it over. Nine inches keeps it manageable, so it fits in a cupboard and travels between houses without a case.

The ice catch is the part that earns the money. Drop a few cubes in and the smoke passes through them on the way up, which takes the edge off a big pull without needing a perc stack. The joint is 14mm female and the five inch downstem is an 18mm to 14mm reducer, so any standard 14mm bowl or downstem fits, and a 14mm flower bowl is already in the box.

Sizing up

Everything else Human Grade makes is a straight tube. The 15" and 18" add a shower perc on top of the ice catch, and the Inline Triple Ice Catch is the most cooling in the range.
