A Puffco that tastes burnt, hits weak, or takes forever to heat almost never has a broken heater. It has a dirty one. The good news is that a real clean takes about five minutes and one bottle of high strength isopropyl alcohol. The bad news is that most of the damage we see at the counter comes from people cleaning their device the wrong way, not from never cleaning it at all.
Here is the process we walk customers through at the shop, broken out by device and by part, plus the short list of things that will genuinely kill a Peak Pro.
What you actually need
Four things. That is the whole kit.
- 99% isopropyl alcohol. Not 70%. This is the one item that matters and we will explain why below.
- Cotton swabs. Plain ones. The tapered precision tips are worth it for chamber work.
- Coarse salt. Only for the glass, never for anything electronic.
- A dry lint free cloth. A microfiber cloth or an eyeglass cloth is perfect.
The one we stock
Dr. Iso 99% isopropyl alcohol is what we keep behind the counter and what we use on our own display units. The percentage is the whole point. Standard drugstore rubbing alcohol is 70%, which means almost a third of what you are wiping into your chamber is water. Water does not dissolve resin, it takes far longer to evaporate, and anything left behind when you fire the atomizer tastes exactly as bad as it sounds. At 99% the alcohol cuts oil residue on contact and flashes off in seconds, so you can clean and use the device in the same few minutes.

The thirty second clean you should do after every session
This single habit does more for your device than any deep clean ever will, because it stops residue from ever hardening in the first place.
- Take your last dab and let the chamber cool for roughly a minute. You want it warm to the touch, not hot. Warm residue wipes away. Cold residue turns into a shell.
- Dip a cotton swab in 99% isopropyl and squeeze the excess out against the neck of the bottle. It should be damp, not dripping.
- Swab the inside walls and the floor of the bucket in a circle until the swab comes away clean.
- Run a dry swab around the same surfaces to pick up the alcohol.
- Leave the chamber open for a minute before you cap it.
Do that and you will very rarely need to do anything else.
How to clean a Puffco Peak Pro chamber
The chamber is where the confusion lives, so read this part twice. The Peak Pro chamber is not a piece of glass. It is an electronic component with contacts on the bottom that talk to the base. It reads temperature and it carries current.
Never submerge the chamber
Do not drop it in a cup of alcohol. Do not soak it overnight. Do not run it under the tap. Liquid that gets past the bucket and into the contact ring is how a perfectly good chamber starts throwing heat errors or refusing to be recognized by the base. This applies to the standard 3D chamber and to the 3DXL.
If a chamber has already been soaked, do not power it on. Stand it upside down somewhere warm and dry for a full day before you try it. Firing a wet chamber is what turns a maybe into a definitely.
The right way
Everything happens with swabs. Wipe the interior walls and floor of the bucket with an alcohol dampened swab, working around the ridges of the 3D bowl rather than jabbing straight down at the center. If the residue has gone hard and glassy on you, warm the chamber up on the lowest heat setting, let it cool for a minute, and try again. Heat softens the buildup and the swab does the rest.
The outside of the chamber and the sealing ring take a dry swab or a corner of your cloth. Keep alcohol away from the gold contacts on the underside. If they need attention, a dry swab is enough.
How to clean a Puffco Proxy
Same rules, smaller parts. The Proxy chamber threads off the body, and the body is the part with the battery in it, so the body never touches liquid. Ever.
Unscrew the chamber, swab the bowl interior exactly as you would on a Peak Pro, and wipe the threads dry. The glass or ceramic attachment the Proxy sits in comes off separately and can be soaked properly, which we cover in the next section. Wipe the body itself with a dry cloth only, and pay attention to the pin and the threads where the chamber seats, since resin creeping in there is what causes a Proxy to stop making a clean connection.
The Pivot follows the same logic. Chamber gets swabbed, glass gets soaked, electronics stay dry.
How to clean the glass
Here is the one part you can be aggressive with. The glass attachment holds no electronics at all, so it gets the full treatment.
- Remove the glass from the base and empty out any standing water.
- Pour in enough 99% isopropyl to cover the dirty areas, then add a spoon of coarse salt. The salt is an abrasive, not a solvent. It does the scrubbing you cannot reach with your hands.
- Cover the openings and shake for thirty to sixty seconds. Discoloration usually lifts in one pass.
- Dump it, then rinse with warm water thoroughly. Not a quick pass. Any alcohol left in the glass will find its way into your next dab.
- Shake dry and leave it upside down on a towel until there is no moisture anywhere inside.

The base, the contacts, and what will actually break it
The base holds the battery and the board. It gets a dry cloth and nothing else. If something sticky has landed on the outside, dampen the cloth very lightly with alcohol, wipe, and dry it immediately. Never let liquid pool in the well where the chamber sits, and never wipe alcohol across the charging port.

How often is often enough
Swab the chamber after every session while it is still warm. Soak the glass once a week if you use the device daily, sooner the moment the water looks cloudy or the draw feels restricted. Give the chamber a proper swab down once a week even if you have been keeping up, and wipe the contacts dry whenever you have the chamber off anyway.
If your device is heating slower than it used to, or the flavor has gone flat and harsh at a temperature that always tasted fine, the chamber is the first thing to check and cleaning is the first thing to try. A chamber does eventually wear out, and if a real clean does not bring it back we stock replacement chambers and parts at the shop.
Mistakes we see at the counter
- Soaking the chamber. The single most common way people kill a Peak Pro. It seems logical and it is the one thing you cannot do.
- Using 70% alcohol. It leaves water behind, cleans worse, and takes far longer to dry.
- Cleaning stone cold. Residue that has fully hardened takes ten times the effort. Warm chamber, easy wipe.
- Not rinsing the glass. Alcohol residue tastes terrible and you will blame the concentrate.
- Firing it while damp. Give everything a minute. It is not optional.
- Scraping with metal. A dab tool against the inside of a chamber scratches the surface and gives residue more to grip next time. Swabs only.

Common questions
Can I use 70% isopropyl on my Puffco?
You can, but it works noticeably worse. 70% is nearly a third water, which does not dissolve resin and takes much longer to evaporate. 99% cuts residue faster and flashes off in seconds, which matters a lot when you are cleaning a part you cannot rinse.
Can I soak a Puffco chamber in alcohol?
No. The chamber contains heating and sensing electronics with contacts on the underside. Soaking it can let liquid reach those contacts and cause heat errors or a chamber the base will not recognize. Clean the interior with an alcohol dampened cotton swab instead.
Why does my Puffco taste burnt after cleaning?
Almost always leftover alcohol. Either the glass was not rinsed thoroughly with water, or the chamber was fired before the alcohol had fully evaporated. Rinse the glass properly, finish the chamber with a dry swab, and give it a minute before you heat it.
How often should I clean my Puffco?

Can I put my Puffco glass in the dishwasher?
No. The heat and the detergent can cloud or crack the glass, and a dishwasher will not remove concentrate residue anyway. Alcohol and coarse salt does the job in under a minute.
