Santa Cruz has been building these in California since before most of the current grinder market existed, and the four piece small is the one people carry. Nineteen teeth across the lid and lower plate, cut to a patented profile that pulls flower through rather than compressing it, so the grind stays even and the lid keeps turning instead of binding halfway.

Under the teeth sits a mesh screen and a catch chamber, so kief collects as you go without any extra effort. The threading is cut deeper than the usual grinder thread and paired with a friction ring, so the halves seat cleanly and do not cross thread. A rare earth magnet holds the lid shut in a bag or a pocket. The outside is knurled the whole way round, which is what makes the small one turnable at this diameter.

Which size

The small is the one that travels. The medium is the everyday size at 2 1/8 inches, the large 4 piece steps up to 2 3/4 inches and 36 teeth, and the large 3 piece is that same diameter without the kief screen, trading it for one deeper chamber you can scoop from.

Teeth or milling
