The Flower Mill 3.5" Pro Mill is here: 7 grams a pass, locking plates, lifetime warranty

Flower Mill has never made anything bigger than the 2.5 inch. The new 3.5" Pro Mill changes that: up to 7 grams in a single pass, over 1,000 grams an hour, a locking plate system, and a lifetime warranty. Both the mill and the Pro Kit are on the shelf at 1321 now.

Every Flower Mill works the same way. There are no teeth. A 20 flute rotor rolls flower across a stainless plate and lets it crumble where it naturally wants to break, so what lands in the catch is light, fluffy and even instead of shredded and packed, and the stems stay up top. The 3.5" Pro does not change any of that. It scales it.

What the 3.5" Pro does that the 2.5 cannot

The obvious part is capacity. A 2.5 inch Premium mills about 2.5 grams a pass, which is a session. The Pro takes up to 7 grams, which is a quarter, and Flower Mill rates it at more than 1,000 grams an hour. The wider milling surface is also why it turns smoother under a full load: there is simply more plate for the rotor to work across, so a packed chamber does not fight you the way a small mill does.

The less obvious part is the plate system. The 2.0 and 2.5 Premium plates drop in on a center rod and sit under gravity, which is fine at that size. The Pro plates are noticeably thicker and cut with a keyed notch that locks into the mill, so the plate stays seated and aligned however hard it gets worked. The #1 Extra Fine and #2 Fine plates also gained chamfered bottoms so fine material passes through instead of clumping in the holes, and there is a brand new size at the top of the range, the #6 Coarse XL, built for pre-processing and rolling in volume. Like every Flower Mill, the Pro ships with the #3 Medium in the box.

The build is a 6061 aluminum shell around a food grade 304 stainless milling chamber, with a deeper housing and ring than the 2.5, and Flower Mill backs it with a lifetime warranty.

Mill or Pro Kit

The mill on its own is $249 and comes with the Medium plate only. The Pro Kit is $459 and is the whole platform in one box.

In the Pro Kit
  • 3.5" Pro Mill
  • All six Pro plates: #1 Extra Fine, #2 Fine, #3 Medium, #4 Coarse, #5 Extra Coarse, #6 Coarse XL
  • 3.5" Neon Green glow in the dark silicone grip
  • Mason jar adaptor, so the lower chamber threads straight onto a jar
  • Hard case

The math is not complicated. Pro plates are $25 to $35 each on their own, so the five extra plates plus the grip already cover the $210 difference before the jar adaptor and the case come into it. If you know you want to run different consistencies, or you want a mill that lives on the table with everything it needs in one place, buy the Kit. If you only ever mill one way, buy the mill.

Who should actually buy one

Honestly, not everyone. If you mill an eighth at a time, the Premium Stainless in 2.0 or 2.5 inch does the identical milling for a third of the price and fits in a pocket, and the Standard does it for less again if you never change plates. The Pro is for when the eighth is the warm up: rolling for a group, prepping pre-rolls, running a lounge or a session house, or anyone who is tired of milling five times to get through what they actually need. It is also, frankly, the statement piece. It is the one people pick up off the counter.

One thing to know before you order plates

Pro plates are 3.5 inch only. They will not fit the 2.0 or 2.5 Premium, those take their own 2.0 and 2.5 inch plates, and none of them fit a Standard, which runs a fixed plate. Check your model first.
